The Associated Press reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Byron Leftwich outperformed QB Luke McCown during the team’s preseason game Thursday, Aug. 27. Leftwich was 9-for-17 for 100 yards while McCown finished 5-for-11 for 38 yards in the game. Both quarterbacks had roughly the same amount of playing time in the game.

Morris said, “They're having days back and forth [Luke and Byron]. One day Byron looks hot, the other day Luke looks hot. The leadership skills are coming out, the tempo got a lot better.” Morris added, “We still have to get to that first game to really get separation because that's when they've really have a chance to get hit.”

Updating previous reports, PewterReport.com reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have re-signed QB Luke McCown to a two-year deal worth $7.5 million, according to sources. McCown received a $2.5 million signing bonus and will have a $2.5 million base salary in 2009. He also has playing time and playoff incentives that could make the contract worth as much as $14 million.
