Scott Petrak, of The Medina County Gazette, reports Cleveland Browns TE Steve Heiden (knee) suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and sprained medial collateral ligament in the team's Week 15 game. He will undergo surgery Thursday, Dec. 18.

James Walker, of ESPN.com, reports Cleveland Browns TE Steve Heiden (back) recently underwent surgery to repair a bulging disc in his back and will be out for approximately three weeks, according to Heiden’s agent Jack Wirth. Heiden began feeling back pains during offseason workouts. Wirth said, “Steve decided to go ahead and do whatever procedure they had to do. It was very simple, and they assured him that he could do everything in about three weeks.”

Tight end Steve Heiden signed a four-year contract extension with the Cleveland Browns on Saturday. Heiden is an eight-year veteran and entering his sixth season with the Browns. He had 36 receptions for 244 yards and two touchdowns last season as the No. 2 tight end behind Kellen Winslow Jr. The 6-foot-5, 267-pounder caught a career-high 43 passes for 401 yards and three TDs in 2005.
