Tom Kowalski, of MLive.com, reports Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said it is not known if QB Matthew Stafford (shoulder) will be able to start in Week 15. If he is not able to play, Schwartz indicated QB Daunte Culpepper likely will start.

George Sipple, of the Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (knee) will be a game-time decision for Week 6, according to head coach Jim Schwartz. "We'll lean on our injury report and then we'll make a decision Sunday morning of what we're going to do. I actually will announce our decision Sunday morning," Schwartz said. QB Daunte Culpepper will start if Stafford is unable to play.

John Niyo, of the Detroit News, reports Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz would not say if QB Daunte Culpepper or Matthew Stafford will start in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 29, but said both will receive an equal amount of playing time and likely will see time with the starting receivers.

Tom Kowalski, of Mlive.com, reports Detroit Lions QB Daunte Culpepper has dropped significant weight after weighing in at 292 pounds last year when the Lions signed him midseason. WR Bryant Johnson said Culpepper came in around 260 pounds for the start of the team's offseason program this year. "He looks good, and I look forward to working with him," Johnson said of his new teammate. OT George Foster said Culpepper has been leading by example and "looks amazing."

Tom Kowalski, of Mlive.com, reports a Detroit Lions source said that QB Daunte Culpepper has not been named the team's starting quarterback for 2009. Former WR Mike Furrey had previously said during a radio interview that the team's quarterbacks have been informed that Culpepper will be the starter next season. According to the source, Culpepper might remain in the mix, but the team is still exploring its options in signing a veteran quarterback or selecting one in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Carlos Monarrez, of the Detroit Free Press, reports Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said he did not hire offensive coordinator Scott Linehan because they had QB Daunte Culpepper on the roster. Culpepper passed for 4,717 yards, 39 touchdowns and had a 110.9 passer rating in 2004 with the Minnesota Vikings with Linehan as his offensive coordinator. "I think part of the dynamic of a new coaching staff is that you not have those loyalties," Schwartz said. "I think one of the reasons you have turnarounds is you have players that are proving themselves to new coaches. You have coaches that are proving themselves to new players. I don't want that connection. We were very clear that that connection isn't going to necessarily mean we're either keeping or not keeping Daunte."
