The Browns placed LB D'Qwell Jackson on Injured Reserve after having toe surgery. Jackson, who has "turf toe," was injured last week against Pittsburgh. Though its a relatively common injury that can heal with rest, Jackson and the team elected to have the operation, Browns coach Romeo Crennel said. "There are two small bones underneath his big toe," Crennel said. "One of them got pulled away a little bit. If you give it time, it will heal, but some say that it's fixable now. We decided to have it fixed."

Rookie LB has toe surgery :: Sat Dec 16, 2006 1:15 am
Cleveland rookie inside linebacker D'Qwell Jackson had surgery on his toe Thursday and will likely miss the Browns' final three games, another bad break for the luckless club. Jackson, who has "turf toe," was injured last week against Pittsburgh. Though its a relatively common injury that can heal with rest, Jackson and the team elected to have the operation, Browns coach Romeo Crennel said. He only ruled Jackson out of this Sunday's game at Baltimore, but it's doubtful the 23-year-old will play in Cleveland's last two games. "There are two small bones underneath his big toe," Crennel said. "One of them got pulled away a little bit. If you give it time, it will heal, but some say that it's fixable now. We decided to have it fixed."

Rookie LB ready for first start :: Sat Dec 16, 2006 1:15 am
Browns rookie LB Leon Williams, a fourth-round pick, is expected to make his first start on Sunday against the Ravens in place of D'Qwell Jackson, who has season-ending surgery on Thursday. "I'm ready," said Williams, who got his most significant playing time against Atlanta on Nov. 12, when he was used to "spy" Falcons quarterback Michael Vick. "It's been a long season. It's been a learning process playing linebacker in a 3-4, but I've picked it up gradually and have made progress and now I'm able to display what I've learned. It's an opportunity. I'm going to have fun."
