LB Williams out with torn pec :: Tue May 01, 2007 12:45 pm
Falcons linebacker Demorrio Williams underwent surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle that could keep the three-year veteran sidelined as long as five months. Falcons GM Rich McKay said Sunday that Williams, slated to enter his third season as the weakside starter, was injured lifting weights last week. McKay and first-year coach Bobby Petrino confirmed Williams' injury means rookie Stephen Nicholas, a fourth-round draft pick from South Florida, will begin the mandatory three-day mini-camp May 11 working with the No. 1 defense. According to McKay, the Falcons have no plans to move five-time Pro Bowl selection Keith Brooking from middle linebacker.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the Falcons will tender LB Demorrio Williams with a second-round tender, meaning that if he signs an offer sheet with another team and the Falcons don't match, they'll receive a second-round pick as compensation. Williams finished with 90 total tackles, one sack and one interception last year.
Jerious Norwood looks ready :: Sat Dec 23, 2006 11:33 am
Falcons RB Jerious Norwood, who missed the Dallas game with a knee injury he suffered the week before against Tampa Bay, appeared to have a little extra bounce in his step on Thursday. At the end of special teams practice, he engaged in a race with LB DeMorrio Williams, and after an even run for about 50-yards, Norwood pulled away at the end. Norwood hasn't missed practice since re-injuring the knee he originally banged up versus Baltimore, and remains listed as probable on the injury report.

LB Williams might start for ATL :: Sat Nov 04, 2006 12:10 am

LB Hartwell to play vs. PIT :: Sat Oct 21, 2006 1:13 am
Demorrio Williams leads the Falcons with 32 tackles and 25 solo stops, according to statistics posted on, but the third-year linebacker lost his starting job on Wednesday. Head coach Jim Mora confirmed that Ed Hartwell, whom Atlanta signed in March 2004 to a six-year contract that included $8 million in guarantees, will start at middle linebacker when the Steelers visit the Georgia Dome on Sunday. Arthroscopic surgery on both knees sidelined Hartwell after the third preseason game. Combined with a torn Achilles tendon he suffered in Week 5 of 2005, Hartwell has played in just five of the Falcons' last 21 games. Hartwell's return means that Keith Brooking, a five-time Pro Bowl selection who started at middle linebacker, moves back to the weak side.
LB Hartwell's status unknown :: Tue Oct 10, 2006 8:59 am
On Monday, when the Falcons (3-1) returned from their bye, LB Edgerton Hartwell (knees) was back at practice, saying "I feel good" and waiting to see how he fits into the team's plans for Sunday's home game against the Giants. The Falcons may not be eager to rush Hartwell back. Five-time Pro Bowl pick Keith Brooking has played the first four games in the middle. The young starting outside linebackers -- Michael Boley and Demorrio Williams -- have been so productive it may be difficult for coaches to move either to a backup role. "It's good to have him back out there working on the field in practices," defensive coordinator Ed Donatell said. "He's getting reps. We want to weave him back into the lineup. Everyday he'll get work and hopefully he'll play Sunday."
