The Seahawks have announced that they have placed the franchise tag on placekicker Josh Brown, guaranteeing him a one-year offer that equals the average of the five highest paid kickers in the NFL. If another team signed Brown, they would have to give up two first-round picks for him. Brown made 25-of-31 field goals in 2006 -- the most made or attempted in his career. His 80.6 percentage made is second-best in his four seasons. He also nailed 36 extra points, 20 fewer than in 2005.

Like most kickers, Josh Brown has a routine. It's just that his routine is other people's extraordinary. Brown has won five of the Seahawks' last 19 games with last-second kicks, spanning 13 months. It's one of the most clutch kicking streaks in NFL history. Only one other kicker has won four games on the last play within 12 months inside this decade: Matt Stover, for Baltimore from 2003-04. His latest heroic kick came in Week 10 as his 38-yarder sealed the victory for the Seahawks over the Rams.
