The St. Petersburg Times reports that Bucs coach Jon Gruden will let Chris Simms take the first reps from scrimmage during the team's offseason minicamp on April 10. Simms will compete with Jeff Garcia for the starting gig. "We're going to let Chris Simms break the huddle on April 10, the OTA days, we're going to try to teach Jeff Garcia the offense and bring Bruce Gradkowski along," Gruden said.

Buccaneers rookie QB Bruce Gradkowski wound up playing in 13 games this season, starting 11. He completed 177-of-328 passes for 1,661 yards with nine TDs and nine interceptions. He added 161 rush yards on the ground but fumbled the ball away six times. The rookie from Toledo only topped 200 pass yards in one game on the year and didn't throw a TD pass in his last four starts.

TE Anthony Becht, backup QB Bruce Gradkowski, FB Jerald Sowell, WR Paris Warren, TE Dave Moore and WR Mark Jones were able to play in Week 16 against the Browns but they did not post any offensive statistics.

Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden likes new QB Tim Rattay. After losing Chris Simms to a ruptured spleen, Gruden turned to rookie Bruce Gradkowski, who went 3-8 as a starter and got pulled in the second quarter for Rattay in last week's overtime loss in Chicago. Rattay, who will start Sunday, rallied the Buccaneers to 28 points in the final 16 minutes of regulation at Chicago - this from a team that has scored just 186 points, the same amount as San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson. "He's smart, he's an accurate passer and he's tough," Gruden said. "When you have those three things, throw in the word experience and you have a chance to have some success. We think he has some upside, certainly."

Tampa Bay Coach Jon Gruden named QB Tim Rattay the starter for Week 16 against Cleveland. Rattay replaced rookie Bruce Gradkowski on Sunday against Chicago and threw for 268 yards and three fourth-quarter touchdowns. He led the Bucs -- the lowest-scoring offense in the league -- to 28 points in an 11-minute run of five possessions spanning the third and fourth quarters. “It’s just common sense right now based on performance and who gives us a better chance to win a football game," Gruden said. "We’d like to finish the season as strongly as we can. I think Bruce is struggling to a degree now, and I thought Tim did some good things the last couple weeks when given a chance to play."

Bucs starting QB Bruce Gradkowski got the hook in Week 15 after completing just 5-of-11 passes for 37 yards in one half of play against the Bears. Tim Rattay replaced the rookie and threw three touchdowns.

Bucs QB Tim Rattay completed 20-of-35 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 15 loss to the Bears. Rattay came into the game during the second half when starter Bruce Gradkowski struggled in the first half.

Bucs coach Jon Gruden said Monday that QB Bruce Gradkowski would remain Tampa Bay's starter, but would not hesistate to switch to Tim Rattay if Gradkowski doesn't play well. "We're going to get both guys ready to play," Gruden said during his Monday press conference. "We've just got to perform better."

Bucs QB Bruce Gradkowski got benched late in the 4th quarter in Week 15 against the Falcons as he struggled to move the offense. He completed 13-of-24 passes for 121 yards. He also had eight yards rushing.
