Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said he was pleased with how QB Charlie Whitehurst played during the preseason and is confident in Whitehurst if the team needs him to play, reports Eric Williams, of The Tacoma News Tribune. "Charlie had a great preseason for us, save for a couple picks that he threw," Carroll said. "He really had a very good preseason. And he’s Seahawk now. He knows what he’s doing. And he understands that he can run the offense. And we feel very confident that he can come in and help us if we need him."

Eric Williams, of The News Tribune, reports the clock appears to be ticking on Seattle Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck’s future with the team after the addition of QB Charlie Whitehurst. If the Seahawks were to trade Hasselbeck, they would clear the way to begin playing Whitehurst now and accelerating his development process by getting him on the field early.

Chris Jenkins, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers DT Jacques Cesaire (shoulder), FB Jacob Hester (knee), WR Kassim Osgood (wrist), P Mike Scifres (knee), LB Matt Wilhelm (shoulder), OG Scott Mruczkowski (shoulders) and QB Charlie Whitehurst (shoulder) all underwent surgery after the season. All will be sidelined for four to six weeks.
