The New York Jets are willing to trade QB Kellen Clemens before the start of the regular season, sources told's Rich Cimini. The Jets were showcasing Clemens during their first preseason game. The Jets could keep him as their No. 3 quarterback if they are not able to find a deal.

The Associated Press reports New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez received the slight edge from head coach Rex Ryan Friday, July 31, over QB Kellen Clemens in the team's first practice of training camp. "It probably wasn't the best day in throwing completions, but I thought Sanchez had a really good day," Ryan said. "When you look at it, he threw a couple of balls that could've been picked, but other than that ... I thought he threw the comeback and deep out exceptionally well today."

Rich Cimini, of The New York Daily News, reports New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said the team's battle at quarterback is going to be a heavyweight title fight. QBs Mark Sanchez and Kellen Clemens are about to compete for the starting duties. "Hopefully, it'll be easy for us and easy for the fans to figure out the winner," Schottenheimer said. Jets head coach Rex Ryan has no qualms about starting a rookie. How well Sanchez grasps the offense will go a long way in determining his fate. Schottenheimer would like the offense to revert to the 2006 offense, which used a myriad of formations, shifts and personnel packages to keep opponents off balance.

The Associated Press reports New York Jets QB Kellen Clemens may have his work cut out for him since the Jets drafted QB Mark Sanchez in the first round, but Clemens is still in the competition for the team's starting job. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said Clemens is "clearly ahead" in terms of the system and has performed well during offseason workouts. "Things that come natural to Kellen, Sanchez has to think about," Schottenheimer said. "I'm looking forward to watching these guys compete."
