Lions rookie RB Brian Calhoun has been on Injured Reserve since early November after tearing his ACL. Kevin Jones ready to go :: Sun Dec 03, 2006 11:19 pm
Lions RB Kevin Jones, who missed the Thanksgiving Day game with a sprained ankle, has resumed workouts and is expected to play Sunday in the Lions' game at New England. With Jones, the Lions at least have a chance of keeping opposing defenses honest, which is something they couldn't do in the Thanksgiving Day loss to Miami. They have been hit particularly hard in that area with backup RB Shawn Bryson and third-string RB rookie Brian Calhoun out for the season with injuries. If Jones should re-injure the ankle, the Lions will be back to Arlen Harris and Aveion Cason, two street free agents who were signed after the start of the season.
Lions put Hall, Calhoun on IR :: Sat Nov 11, 2006 10:21 pm
The Detroit Lions put DL James Hall and reserve RB Brian Calhoun on injured reserve Thursday, ending their seasons. Detroit signed DL Corey Smith and RB Aveion Cason to fill the roster spots. Hall, a starter since 2002, had five sacks in seven games this season before missing Detroit's previous game against Atlanta with a shoulder injury. He has 32 1/2 career sacks in seven seasons with the Lions. Calhoun, a third-round draft pick this year, had seven carries for 19 yards and contributed on special teams. He has a knee injury. Smith was cut just before the season by San Francisco, who plays Sunday at Detroit, after playing for the 49ers the previous two years. He had 12 tackles in 14 games last year, his fourth in the NFL. Cason played sparingly for the Lions from 2001-2002 before running for 220 yards and two touchdowns two years ago in Dallas and playing two games for the St. Louis Rams last season.
