Detroit Lions TE Tony Scheffler said he has been working on building chemistry with QB Matthew Stafford during offseason workouts and looked in rhythm during practices, reports Carlos Monarrez, of the Detroit Free Press. "I'm starting to get a little bit of chemistry with Matthew, and I love being in this offense. It's fun," Scheffler said. "There's a lot of chances for guys to get favorable matchups and kind of put the onus on you to step up and make plays."

Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos TE Tony Scheffler is unhappy over being benched for the team’s Week 17 game. Scheffler was informed Wednesday, Dec. 30, by an assistant coach that he would not be dressing for the game and would spend the week of practice on the scout squad. "I'm a competitor and have worked extremely hard this offseason to be able to fight for a chance to make the playoffs," Scheffler said. "Him taking that away doesn't sit very well with me or some of my teammates." Scheffler has been frustrated by his reduced role this season. He has 31 catches for 416 yards in 15 games, after catching 40 passes for 645 yards in 13 games last year.

Lindsay H. Jones and Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, report the Philadelphia Eagles called the Denver Broncos about TE Tony Scheffler. Unless the Eagles are willing to surrender a first-round draft choice for Scheffler, it is likely he will remain a member of the Broncos. Scheffler led all NFL tight ends last season with a 16.1-yards-per-catch average and has a base salary of $535,000 in 2009.
