Wright headed to Giants :: Tue Apr 17, 2007 7:03 am
Veteran QB Anthony Wright has reached an agreement on a two-year contract with the New York Giants. The 31-year-old Wright, who saw limited action with the Cincinnati Bengals last season, worked out for the Giants this week. Entering his ninth season, Wright will compete with Jared Lorenzen and Tim Hasselbeck for the No. 2 spot behind Eli Manning. It's a job that involves a lot of preparation and little work. Last season, Manning was the only Giants QB to throw a pass. Lorenzen, the backup, took a couple of snaps on quarterback sneaks, but the only other New York player to throw a pass was punter Jeff Feagles.

Giants look at QB Wright :: Thu Apr 12, 2007 7:02 am
According to the New York Post, the Giants this week will meet with QB Anthony Wright as a potential backup to Eli Manning. Wright, 31, is arguably the last proven quarterback remaining on the market. The nine-year veteran spent last season with the Bengals and enjoyed his best success in Baltimore, where he started seven games in 2003 and seven more in 2005. In his career, Wright has completed 55.4 percent of his passes along with 20 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.

Bengals re-sign QB Johnson :: Tue Feb 06, 2007 10:46 pm
Quarterback Doug Johnson agreed to a one-year contract Monday with the Cincinnati Bengals, staying around to be Carson Palmer's backup. Johnson hasn't thrown a pass in an NFL regular-season game since 2004. He signed with the Bengals as a free agent last February, when it was unclear whether Palmer would be recovered from reconstructive knee surgery in time for the season. Palmer made his comeback ahead of schedule and was ready for the opener. Johnson wound up being the No. 3 quarterback behind Palmer and Anthony Wright, who also signed a one-year deal before last season.

McNair for NFL MVP? :: Fri Dec 15, 2006 12:54 am
His numbers aren't as gaudy as those of LaDainian Tomlinson or Drew Brees, yet Steve McNair probably deserves consideration when it comes time to select the 2006 NFL MVP. The Baltimore Ravens went 6-10 last year. This season they're 10-3. The turnaround can be attributed largely to McNair, who has taken control of an offense that never realized its potential with Kyle Boller or Anthony Wright at quarterback. "McNair has been outstanding. I saw tremendous lift from Day 1," Ravens minority owner Art Modell said Wednesday. "There's something very positive about the man. He's under control, and the team reflects that. I think he's responsible for our success. Not alone, but he's been a good part of our success offensively this year."
