Casey Pearce, of Chargers.com, reports San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (knee) commented on his knee and how the offseason workouts are going Friday, April 11. Rivers said he is pleased with the progress he's made and thinks he's ahead of the rehabilitation process. He attended the team's offseason workout and was able to jog but couldn’t take any snaps under center or participate at full speed. "I started out with a little jog," Rivers said. "I was going about as hard as I can go today. It feels good. I think I'm ahead, but at least where I need to be right now." Rivers also said that he can stand in a spot and throw but can't do the full-speed drops.

Casey Pearce, of Chargers.com, reports San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (knee) is making good progress after undergoing knee surgery January 23. Three days after his surgery, Rivers replaced his crutches with a heavy brace on his right knee. Rivers says he feels fine and is optimistic that he may be able to participate in drills before the team's training camp in July.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said Monday that he had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee a week ago in order to play in the AFC Championship Game, and that he'll need surgery on the torn anterior cruciate ligament in the same joint.

San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers was selected as the team's Most Inspirational Player along with LB Carlos Polk. Rivers threw for 3,152 yards and 21 touchdowns during the 2007 season. He completed 133 of 214 passes for 1,656 yards with 14 touchdowns and five interceptions in an eight-game winning streak. Rivers has the highest career passing rating during the regular season in team history. He and Polk receive the Emil Karas Memorial Award for winning the Most Inspirational Player of the Year Award.

Updating a previous report, The Associated Press reports San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (knee) said he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Monday, Jan. 14, in order to play in the AFC Championship Game. "It wasn't real extensive, but I mean, really that was the only way I would have had a chance to play by doing that on Monday. I thought maybe I could come back in the [Indianapolis Colts] game but it was catching. That's what we did on Monday to give me the chance to play on Sunday," Rivers said. He also said he will have surgery to repair his torn ACL as soon as possible. He believes he will be ready for the start of training camp next season.

Jay Posner, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers players were impressed with the performance of QB Philip Rivers (knee) during the AFC Championship Game. Rivers played the game with a sprained medial collateral ligament and partially torn anterior cruciate ligament and will likely need offseason surgery. "I think people should really back off Philip Rivers because I think that's the gutsiest performance that I've ever been around," OG Mike Goff said. "People might yell at him for making a couple interceptions, but you know what, the man's out there on two bad wheels and he's out there playing his heart out. So I think maybe people now will just back off."
