The New York Jets announced Saturday that they waived offensive linemen Ed Blanton, Marko Cavka, Charles Missant, Steve Morley, Doug Nienhuis, and Issac Snell; wide receivers Reggie Newhouse, Dante Ridgeway and Sloan Thomas; tight ends Joel Dreessen, Joe Kowalewski, and Walter Rasby; running back Stacy Tutt; defensive linemen Darrell Adams, Matt McChesney, Brennan Schmidt; linebackers Craig Bailey, Blake Costanzo and Darrell McClover; defensive backs Andre Maddox, Ray Mickens, Hank Poteat and Jamie Thompson.

Veteran TE Walter Rasby is a long shot to make the roster. And he knows it. "Lot of talent here," said Rasby, surveying the competition. "Two first-round picks and -- what? -- a third- and a fourth-(rounder) or something like that? Crazy talent here, man." Rasby, 33, came into the league through the proverbial back door, hooking on with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 1994. But he says he can help the kids' development by teaching them "a lot of tricks of the trade."

Pats TE Daniel Graham has yet to practice, giving rookie David Thomas and 12th-year veteran Walter Rasby a chance to get extra reps working with Tom Brady in the first unit. New England's propensity for multiple tight end sets ensures that the team will keep at least three tight ends on the roster, maybe more due to the lack of quality depth at receiver.
