Ryan O'Halloran, of The Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn said he sees RB Ladell Betts complementing what RB Clinton Portis does. "I see Ladell playing a lot and complementing what Clinton does, and I see us having the chance to play them both at the same time," Zorn said. "I look at Ladell and Clinton as similar runners. Good zone runners, excellent pass blockers and guys who do a really nice job in pass patterns. We haven't had that in my experience."

Redskins RB Ladell Betts told CBS that nothing has been told to him directly about his role in 2007, but he's heard and read that his playing time will be similar to what it was when both he and Clinton Portis were healthy last season. "It'll be Clinton's show -- he's the No. 1 guy -- and when he's tired or we're trying to get a change of pace or whatever the situation may be, I'll spell him and get my touches as well," Betts said. Earlier this offseason, coach Joe Gibbs said he expects more "balance" between Portis and Betts.

The Washington Post reports that Redskins coach Joe Gibbs is planning on keeping Clinton Portis as the starting rusher for his team, but will use Ladell Betts more often. Betts took over for Portis last year when Portis got hurt and ran extremely well. "I think the load will probably be a little bit more balanced between the two," Gibbs said. "They really like each other, which is good. Clinton loves football, is one of the smarter football guys I've been around. He understands. He wants to win. He'll come right out of there and tell Ladell, 'Hey, get in there.' A lot of times it will kind of be in his hands but certainly down the stretch I don't know if anyone played much better than Ladell did."

The Washington Post reports that the Redskins are after Broncos CB Dre Bly even though he was traded once this season already. The Broncos won't extend Bly's contract while he Redskins are willing. Sources close to the negotiations are reporting that the Broncos want the Redskins' first-round pick (sixth overall) as part of a package deal for Bly. Ladell Betts was also mentioned in the deal, but coach Joe Gibbs wants to keep him in Washington.

The Washington Post reports that the Redskins are after Broncos CB Dre Bly even though he was traded once this season already. As part of a package deal for Bly, the Broncos have asked for RB Ladell Betts, but coach Joe Gibbs wants to keep him in Washington. He has plans to use him and Clinton Portis to form Washington's running game in 2007.

Redskins RB Ladell Betts had a career year thanks to starting nine games in place of Clinton Portis, who suffered shoulder and hand injuries during the year. Betts rumbled for a career-best 1,154 yards and four touchdowns, adding 445 receiving yards with a touchdown. By comparison, his numbers were on par with Warrick Dunn and Ahman Green but didn't get as much playing time. Moreover, Betts totaled over 100 rush yards in five of his last six starts and ended with six "century games" on the year.
