Updating a previous report, Bill Ordine, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens QB Steve McNair announced his retirement Thursday, April 17. McNair stated that mentally he could have played for two or three more years but physically he could no longer compete at a level that would allow him to be successful.

The Sports Network reports Baltimore Ravens QB Steve McNair announced his retirement Thursday, April 17, during a press conference. McNair played 13 seasons in the NFL and his final two with the Ravens. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and the league's co-MVP in 2003.

Mike Preston, of the Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens QB Steve McNair (shoulder) is focused on getting completely healthy and returning as the team's starting quarterback for 2008. "Being a competitor, I understand that people are always going to put something, some name out there," McNair said in response to speculation about his possible retirement and that the Ravens might trade for Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb. "I'm not into speculation, I'm into reality. If it happens, then I'll deal with it. But as of right now, my only focus is getting my shoulder ready for the season. I have confidence in myself and in my teammates. If I didn't, I would not come back." McNair's injured shoulder is almost 100 percent healthy, and he has nearly full range of motion.
