Updating a previous item, Tom Withers, of The Associated Press, reports the Cleveland Browns have placed RB Jamal Lewis (concussion) on Injured Reserve, ending his 2009 season and possibly his career. Lewis announced in November that he planned to retire after this season.

Marla Ridenour, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports Cleveland Browns RB Jamal Lewis said he is ready to focus on his trucking company and other business ventures. Lewis also said he would like to be part-owner for an NFL team. Lewis added, “Whichever one of the owners would want to invite me in. I've made multimultimillions, I think it's time to move up to another step. It's about the money, but it's (also) about what you can instill in a team. A lot of the views I have, the teams I've been on, there's a lot of things I would have done different if I were in that position. You would make some decisions that actually matter, when as a player your decisions don't matter.”

Marla Ridenour, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports Cleveland Browns RB Jamal Lewis said Wednesday, Nov. 4, that he would like to leave on his own terms, much like former Browns RB Jim Brown. Lewis is planning to retire after the 2009 season, even though he has a year left on his contract. Brown walked away from football after nine seasons to make movies. Lewis said, “He left on his own terms . . . and I like that. When I came into this league, I modeled (myself) after Jim Brown and I always wanted to follow in his footsteps in everything he did. One of my main goals was to leave when I wanted to. My plans pretty much worked out the way I planned them 10 years ago.”
