Finn fights for job :: Wed Apr 11, 2007 10:07 am
According to the New York Post, Giants fullback Jim Finn just wants a fair chance to win the job. He's started the past four seasons for the Giants, but they are looking to replace him. Back in mid-March, the Giants opened the vault and signed restricted free agent Vonta Leach to a four-year, $7.2 million offer sheet, big money for a fullback. The Texans eventually matched the offer and kept Leach, but the message sent Finn's way was clearer than any lead block he can ever hope to make. Finn was told by Tom Coughlin that the interest in Leach was for the sake of increasing competition at the position.

FB Leach signs Giants' offer :: Wed Mar 21, 2007 1:55 pm
Restricted free-agent fullback Vonta Leach signed an offer sheet for a four-year contract with the Giants on Monday. The Texans, Leach's current team, have seven days to match the deal, worth more than $7 million. If they don't match, Leach becomes a Giant. The 25-year-old Leach played two seasons with the Packers, appearing in 22 games, but had no rushes for the Packers. He was cut last September by Green Bay and joined the Saints, but soon was cut again and went to the Texans. He had six receptions and one touchdown catch for Houston. "It's a good deal for a fullback," agent Ralph Vitolo said. "The Giants are obviously one of the best organizations in the NFL, they have an excellent quarterback (Eli Manning) and a great offense Vonta could probably excel in. They are a playoff or Super Bowl team."

If any of them sign an offer sheet with another team, the Texans have the right of first refusal. The team would get a fourth-round pick if Earl moves on and a sixth-round pick if either Anderson or Hutchins gets going. They would get nothing for Leach or Orr.
