The position battle at this point appears to be between QB Alex D. Smith and QB Shaun Hill.

He receives a $1.95 million signing bonus with base salaries of $1 million (2008), $1.4 million (2009) and $1.5 million (2010). If he reaches all playing-time and performance incentives, the total deal could reach $11.5 million.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the deal could be worth approximately $2 million per year with playing-time bonuses that could further compensate him if he wins the starting job.
