The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the Steelers are considering re-signing running back Verron Haynes, who suffered a torn ACL last season and was cut this offseason. Haynes has been rehabbing with the Steelers and could return as a third-down back if the team thinks he's made a full recovery. "Verron's a big part of what we do." director of football operations Kevin Colbert said.

The Steelers have released veteran RB Verron Haynes and tendered QB Brian St. Pierre, who was scheduled to be a restricted free agent. If St. Pierre signs elsewhere, the Steelers can match the offer or receive compensation from the team that signs him. Haynes had 15 rushes for 78 yards and 18 catches for 95 yards before tearing his ACL in late October.

Steelers RB Duce Staley, who has been inactive the past six games and played just one down this season, may not dress again Sunday against Denver even though RB Verron Haynes was put on IR. Instead, the Steelers could dress RB John Kuhn, signed from their practice squad, because he can do more.

The Steelers placed RB Verron Haynes (knee) and LB Arnold Harrison (knee) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday. To replace them on the roster, the team claimed LB Marquis Cooper off waivers from Minnesota and signed RB/FB John Kuhn from the practice squad.

Steelers RB Verron Haynes and LB Arnold Harrison each left the game yesterday against Oakland with knee injuries. "I think we probably lost Verron and Arnold Harrison for the year," coach Bill Cowher said. Parker and Najeh Davenport took turns replacing Haynes as the third-down back. Veteran Duce Staley, who has been inactive for all but one game this season, probably will suit up to take Haynes' place on the game-day roster. The Steelers will add two players to their 53-man roster to take the spots of Haynes and Harrison.
