Buccaneers | McCown wants to compete for starting job :: Sat Apr 12, 2008 10:54 pm
Charlie Campbell, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Luke McCown has his sights set on more than being a backup quarterback, even though QB Jeff Garcia is entrenched as the team's starting quarterback. The team also added QB Brian Griese via trade in the offseason. "Well you know it's always a competition. Jeff is our starter, but that doesn't keep me from competing to be the starter," McCown said. "I want to be the starter. Right now I'm the number two and competing. That's what we are doing right now. We're competing through OTA's. It doesn't matter what you are on the depth chart it's about competing when you get on the field, being prepared, doing what you can to help the team win. And that's the whole point of a team."

Charlie Campbell, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jeff Garcia said he loves RB Warrick Dunn and thinks he is a tremendous player. "I love Warrick Dunn. Great player, great teammate, great asset to this team, Garcia said. "He's a tremendous back, tremendous abilities, he can play any down, he can do anything for your team. With what they've relied on him at Atlanta and what he did prior to being in Atlanta right here in Tampa Bay. I know he's a fan favorite, a great guy and a great teammate. I've been fortunate enough to have met him prior to him joining the team and be around him. He's a just a first class person, and to have a guy like that with his ability to play on the field it's just a win-win situation."

Buccaneers | J. Garcia comments on new teammates :: Tue Apr 08, 2008 6:58 pm
Charlie Campbell, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jeff Garcia commented on his new teammates C Jeff Faine and WR Antonio Bryant, who were both with Garcia in his one season with the Cleveland Browns. Garcia said he knows Bryant, who sat out of the NFL last year, will make the best of his opportunity, which could be Bryant's last in the league. "He has tremendous ability. I played with him in Cleveland you can watch his highlight films and the guy makes plays all over the field. But there are other issues that have to be cleaned up and hopefully have been put behind him. In my experience of working with him I have nothing but positive things to say, and hopefully it'll be that way and I think it can be that way and I think he'll be a positive addition to this team." Garcia also said he felt Faine was a great center who has great abilities. "Well Jeff was a teammate of mine in Cleveland and I think he's a great center. I think he has great abilities. He's a very athletic center, he's young, he's mobile, he's aggressive. I really felt like last year John Wade did an outstanding job playing center for our team. He was a sturdy dependable guy. It's too bad that we don't have John back here, but Jeff Faine is a great guy who can come in here and can do just as good job if not maybe grow at the position and improve the position."
