I'm not sure where to put this, so I'll just put it here.

The USA hockey team was announced today, and I'm not happy about it.

Forwards
David Backes (STL)
Dustin Brown (LA)
Ryan Callahan (NYR)
Patrick Kane (CHI)
Ryan Kesler (VAN)
Phil Kessel (TOR)
T.J. Oshie (STL)
Max Pacioretty (MON)
Zach Parise (MIN)
Joe Pavelski (SJ)
Paul Stastny (COL)
Derek Stepan (NYR)
James van Riemsdyk (TOR)
Blake Wheeler (WIN)

Defensemen
John Carlson (WAS)
Justin Faulk (CAR)
Cam Fowler (ANA)
Paul Martin (PIT)
Ryan McDonagh (NYR)
Brooks Orpik (PIT)
Kevin Shattenkirk (STL)
Ryan Suter (MIN)

Goalies
Jimmy Howard (DET)
Ryan Miller (BUF)
Jonathan Quick (LA)

I know it wasn't all him, but still, Brian Burke is a moron. He likes having size and grit on his team, so he took Ryan Callahan, Dustin Brown and Brooks Orpik. I personally would have gone with Bobby Ryan, Jason Pominville and Keith Yandle over those three.

The defense is just okay once you get past Suter and McDonagh. The goalies are pretty bad.

The other teams should announce their rosters by the end of the week.

I just don't see why Kunitz over Neal. USA leaving Bobby Ryan at home is also a huge mistake.

Kunitz plays on a line with Crosby. Even though Neal is a better player than Kunitz, Kunitz has the chemistry with Crosby.

And it's Brian Burke. I don't think any of us should be surprised that Ryan isn't there. He can't spell "intense", remember?

The hockey tournament starts in less than a week! It'll be nice waking up in the morning and seeing hockey on the tv.

I can't find a link that has just the time and tv schedule for every game, so you'll just have to look it up yourself...

Stamkos is out for Canada. St. Louis replaces him.
Franzen is out for Sweden. Nyquist replaces him.
Sobotka is out for the Czech Republic. Erat replaces him.
Gaborik is most likely out for Slovakia. Some guy I've never heard of replaces him.

Prediction:

Gold- Canada
Silver- Sweden
Bronze- Russia

Is it too late to change my Sweden for Silver pick? Henrik Sedin is out for Sweden.

I'm swapping Russia and Sweden. Russia wins the Silver, and Sweden wins the Bronze. We'll see.

Pfft, women's hockey sucks. I think checking is illegal in women's hockey from what I was watching.

I had a change of heart with my picks. I'm swapping Russia and Sweden again.

Sweden beat the Czech Republic 4-2. Erik Karlsson had two goals for Sweden. Henrik Lundqvist really wasn't tested, but he was beaten twice (one of the goals shouldn't have counted because a player was in the crease, but whatever). The Czech goalkeeper (some guy from the KHL) got chased after the third goal. Sweden led 4-0 in the second period before allowing two goals in the second.

And in heartbreaking fashion, Latvia lost to Switzerland 1-0. The Swiss scored with under 10 seconds to go in a scoreless game to win.

They're allowed to check. It's just they check like girls, meaning they just push each other.

Finland beat Austria 8-4. Austria led 1-0 and 2-1, but they couldn't hold either lead. Tuukka Rask was awful for Finland. Austria's goalie at least made some good saves despite allowing eight goals. Their defense was brutal all game, so the goalie gets a reprieve from me. Michael Grabner had a hat trick for Austria. Jarkko Immonen and Mikael Granlund scored twice for Finland. And NBCSN cut away from the game with about 6 minutes left, so I missed the hat trick goal. Lame.

The Czech Republic and Slovakia should reunite for sporting events. Their national teams would be so much more successful as one country.

Shootouts suck. I hate them so much, What if an NFL game was decided by a field goal contest? Or an NBA game decided by a dunk contest? Or an MLB game decided by a Home Run Derby? That's basically the same thing... a skills competition.

You figure over the course of 82 games having a shootout makes sense. In such a small tourney like this, I would have just kept playing just like they do in the playoffs.

All of the "favorites" won today. Latvia's goalie almost stole the game from the Canadians, but a late Shea Weber bomb won it.

The U.S. faces Canada in a rematch of the 2010 gold medal game in one semifinal. In the other semifinal, Sweden faces Finland in a rematch of the 2006 gold medal game. Should be very interesting...

I think if Canada plays like they did today, we're headed for a Sweden-USA gold medal game.

Finland vs. Sweden should make for a great matchup regardless, but I just don't see them beating Lundqvist.

I agree. Even though Canada has more talent than the US, I just think the Americans are playing better and with more chemistry.

I think we all expect the other game to be low scoring with Lundqvist vs. Rask which should be fun to watch them duel. In the end I think the Swedes just have more firepower than the Fins do and they will meet USA in the finals.

So... Sweden vs. Canada for the gold on Sunday... just like I predicted.

USA vs. FInland play tomorrow for the bronze.
