There were only three games last night. There were 26 combined goals. That is crazy.
It seems like Toronto and Montreal play to open the season every year. I honestly think (since I can't think of one better) that it's the best rivalry in all of hockey. There was a scary incident in the third period when tough guy George Parros missed a punch during a fight and fell face first onto the ice. He left on a stretcher. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL6Z31dVdcA (The Leafs won the game.)
And I know they didn't win, but if the Capitals keep getting power plays, look out.
Winnipeg had a third period comeback against Edmonton. Many people think this is finally the year for the Oilers to make the playoffs. We'll see. I didn't pick them. |

I picked Edmonton to make the playoffs and if they dont they have to think of something else. They are stacked with talent.
Tough loss by Montreal but I do not feel they will win the division this year like they did last. They are so young they will have their growing pains.
I have not made this in the prediction thread yet but AO will be MVP this year. |

Now I did not believe in the hype with Ryan O'Reilly especially when he was holding out. However, he did pretty good to end last season and this opening game he looked like the best player on that team. |

They will figure it out though. That team has a bright future lead by Giroux. |

Stars, ummm, not so good D.
Barkov may have just become the youngest player to ever score in the NHL. |

Laviolette just got fired. Raise your hand if you had him lasting three games. Anyone? |

Tomas Hertl has four goals for the Sharks tonight. Oh yeah, he's only 19. Go Sharks! |

Max Lapierre does not belong in the league. What a dirty play on Dan Boyle. I expect at least a six game suspension since he's a repeat offender.
And it looks like Laviolette wasn't the problem for the Flyers. |

Flyers became the first team in NHL history to start a season with 9 consecutive games with fewer than 3 goals.
We need to rebuild, and we have so many young pieces that making that move is possible. But the Streit and LeCavalier contracts make such a decision difficult. |

Now the Flyers are embarrassing themselves in more than just their on-ice play. |

Hey, Surge! Giroux finally scored!
Did anyone have the Lightning and Avalanche leading their respective divisions at this point? Anyone?
And the Panthers fired their coaching staff. I don't think that will change anything. It's hard to believe that they made the playoffs a couple of years ago. Then again, those were the days of the Southleast Division. |

LeCavalier's back in Tampa, and the Flyers ares stunningly not out of the race.
Chicago, St. Louis, Colorado, and Minnesota are having a hell of a battle for the Central. Avs and Blues are facing each other tonight. |

I haven't been watching much hockey this year, but all I know is the west is far superior to the east, and the east has two more teams. I mean, I kinda knew the west would be better before the season, but I didn't think the disparity would be this bad. |

Giroux had his 100th goal on a disgusting backhander while being checked to the ice and at an absurd angle to net. It was his 2nd in less than 2:30 to turn a 4-3 deficit to a 5-4 win. The win gives them the, I guess, 5 seed in the East and puts them over .500 for the first time this season. They're 3 back of Washington with one game in hand and 3 back of Toronto with 2 in hand for the final Wild Card spot. |

He's never going to lose. That Quick contract is laughably bad though. I can't believe how many people think he's an elite goalie just because of his one huge year. It reminds me of people's opinions about Ryan Miller. |
