Here are the top spects in college who could be available in the '08 draft.

Another site decided to rank the top 100 prep and college players

Another one does, too.

Top 20 here.

Top 30 here.

Another top 30 here.

Guys to know, watch, whatever...
3B Pedro Alvarez. Like, David Price, he's from Vandy. 22 HRs, 1.131 OPS as a frosh, .386 AVG, 18 HR, 1.173 OPS as a soph.
Justin Smoak, 1B from South Carolina. 39 HR in first two seasons, 79 total K.
Brian Matusz, LHP from SD. 163 K/37 BB in 123 IP last year, with 98 HA and 8 HRA.
Yonder Alonso 1B Miami. 18 Hr, .376 AVG, .519 OBP, 1.224 OPS, 13 SB and just 31 K as a soph.
Aaron Crow RHP Mizzou. 90/33 K/BB in 117.2 IP, 109 HA.
Eric Hosmer, HS. 6-foot-5 power hitting projects 1B with great strength and a good glove. Committed to ASU, but as a top 5 pick, he won't be heading there unless the DBacks draft him.
Tim Beckham, HS. Future SS with great speed and athleticism, had 21 XBH and 20 steals as a junior, named youth player of the year, great defender. Hit 18-for-21 in a summer tournament.

Pedro Alvarez has had some injury problems recently which means he might slip a bit. Otherwise, he is the consensus top pick I think.

A couple minutes away. I think Alvarez is represented by Boras, so he might slip to third or fourth.

The Pirates are taking him at #2. It was already reported in this morning's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

If Tampa takes Posey, I'd kind of prefer Beckham, but it looks like Alvarez is a done deal. I like the high school kid with the highest upside, and I don't feel like dealing with Scott Boras.

But it will sure be nice to draft a promising position player for just the second time in about a dozen years (Andrew McCutchen being the other).

Tampa Bay takes Beckham.
