Well I've heard from Avsfan. He doesn't live near Aurora and doesn't know any of the victims which is good. I'll make one of the same comments I made to him during our discussion... and in no way am I making light of the tragedy. How the hell does someone even sneak an assault rifle in to a theater without being caught. I bet if he was trying to smuggle in a bag of chips they would have caught him.
I don't know what's worse. The fact that as a society we've learned nothing about security and how important it is at any public place... or the fact that we have to keep being reminded by psychopaths like this guy.

I'm fine - thankfully I don't live near Aurora and didn't know any of the victims.
This tragedy has definitely struck closer to home for me since I was only about nine years old when the Columbine shootings occurred. Watching all of the news accounts of what happened and trying to comprehend how someone could commit such a senseless act of violence is something I just can't wrap my mind around. |

Oh, and about the details of how the shooter was able to get the weapons inside the theater and everything, here's what I e-mailed to D-Store earlier in case anyone wanted some more clarity on it (I feel like I know all of the details of this case since I've watched so much of the coverage; as you can imagine, it's all that's being discussed on the news around here):
| Quote: | | He didn't have the weapons with him initially. It appears that he bought a ticket for the movie and took a seat in the front row. Before the film started, he went out the emergency exit in the theater and got everything out of his car (which was parked right next to the door). He then came back in via the door (apparently he somehow propped the door open since it can only be opened from the inside) after the movie had started playing and threw some sort of tear gas or smoke in before opening fire on the crowd. He definitely had it meticulously planned out and wanted to kill as many people as he could. |

| Yeah I had read about the smoke bomb, but didn't know of the other details. This is why all emergency exits should have alarms on them that go off when they're opened. I'm sure many theaters will be installing them after this. |

A few quick comments...
First, I'm fine. I sincerely appreciate the concern.
Second, this whole thing is incredibly sad. My heart to those affected.
Third, Aurora is a complete sh!thole. This isn't the first time there has been problems at this theater.
And finally, to add on to what avs said about getting the weapons from his car, wtinesses say he pretended to take a phone call by going out the exit and then reppeared shortly in full ballistic gear. |

I don't know how movies theaters are in Canada, but (at least in California) the exits inside the actual theaters aren't exactly emergency exits. They are just regular exits to allow people to exit out of the building instead of crowding back into the lobby.
Many theaters actually encourage you to exit using these doors, usually to the right and left and slightly behind the actual screen. Teenagers use these doors to sneak into theaters all the time. You just have one person buy a ticket, then come open the exit doors and let you friends in. |

| That is very different. Perhaps in some of Canada's larger cities they do this too. I don't know. Here the doors with-in the actual theaters are emergency exits only and probably are alarmed. People are expected to exit through the lobby. |
