Two Start Pitchers :: Week 7 by Scott Mickels Published: May 6, 2008, 10:24 pm
We're on to Week 7! There are a few injury watch's this week. First, in New York with the Yankees and Chien-Ming Wang; he's currently probable for his start Wednesday against Cleveland. If he's able to go without any setbacks, he's a no-brainer for Week 7. Next, we go to Minnesota where Kevin Slowey is recovering from a strained bicep muscle and is scheduled to start this Thursday at the White Sox. If he's able to get through the outing without any problems, he's someone to keep in mind next week. And finally, to the bay area, where Matt Cain was pulled early from his last start with a tight right hamstring, but is still scheduled to start Thursday at Pittsburgh. It seemed to be more of a precautionary measure than anything. So if Cain pitches like the hamstring isn't effecting him, he makes an advisable fantasy option for the upcoming week.
I only have one email this week and it comes to me from the birthplace of Elvis Presley, Tupelo, Mississippi. Ron in Tupelo, MS writes: Scott, do I start Micah Owings next week? He had the ankle injury and I don't know if that's why he was slammed last start, but do you think he'll rebound? Thanks for the email, Ron! Owings actually pitches tomorrow (5/7) at home against the Phillies. Keep a close eye on how Owings pitches. If he takes the loss, don't worry. But if he looks bad in the process that would make me raise an eyebrow and consider other options for Week 7. Despite only suffering one loss, he's looked absolutely horrible in his last two outings. In fact, because of those two starts, his ERA has jumped a full two runs from 2.42 to 4.42. If he pitches well and his ankle injury doesn't flare back up, he makes an intriguing start. Again, just watch how he does in his next start before committing to putting him in your lineup. Good luck!Just like Ron, if you have any kind of dilemmas like those staring you in the face each week, don't hesitate to email me with them at scottmickels@fantasyplaymakers.com. I'm more than happy to help you out and get your team's rotation pointed in the right direction. Now, without further ado, on to the two-start pitchers! NOTE: These starts are not set in stone. They can change for any variety of reasons; managerial moves, injuries, rain-outs, etc. Please keep in mind they are probable.
