Two Start Pitchers :: Week 20
by Scott Mickels
Published: August 14, 2011, 9:05 am

For Week 20 there's only one Injury Watch to speak of, but it's a big one.  For this we make our down south to The Big Peach where Braves starting pitcher Tommy Hanson has been dealing with soreness in his throwing shoulder.  Last Tuesday the Braves decided to skip his start on Friday and send him back to Atlanta to get his shoulder more thoroughly examined.  The diagnosis was mild tendonitis with no structural damage.  He received a cortisone shot on Wednesday and reportedly felt good on Friday.  As a result, the Braves have him slated to start this Tuesday at home against the Giants.  Keep in mind, Hanson has already spent time on the DL this year with shoulder inflammation, so this is a situation that should be watched very closely.  His talent is undeniable, but the fact he's given up at least 3 earned runs in every start since July 17 is hard to ignore.  Hanson is a huge injury risk this week as there's no guarantee he'll come away from that first start unscathed.  I'd take the risk in daily leagues as you could always replace him later in the week if he's unable to make that second start or happens to get shelled on Tuesday.  However, in standard weekly leagues, I'd leave him on my bench until he proves he's healthy.  You don't want to get stuck with him for the week only to have him aggravate his shoulder and miss his next start, leaving you high and dry.  Consider Hanson a risky Keep in Mind option going into Week 20.  Good luck!

EDIT:  Since writing this, Tommy Hanson has now been placed on the 15-day DL. He will at least miss his next two starts.

Now, on to what we all came here for, the Two-Start Pitchers!

Of course, if you have any pitching questions, or now any fantasy football questions, don't hesitate to email me with them at scottmickels@fantasyplaymakers.com

NOTE: These starts are not set in stone. They can change for any variety of reasons: managerial moves, injuries, rain-outs, etc. Please keep in mind they are probable.
