Two Start Pitchers :: Week 21 by Scott Mickels Published: August 20, 2011, 6:56 pm
We've got a couple of things to get to this week. First, we have a minor Injury Watch to discuss. For this we head to Monument City where Orioles starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie has been dealing with some stiffness in his shoulder. He had his last start pushed back from Wednesday to Friday and then ultimately skipped. He's now slated to start on Monday at Minnesota. Guthrie currently has a 4.55 ERA, a 1.35 WHIP, has lost 7 of his last 11 outings and plays for Baltimore, so needless to say he's best avoided in most standard leagues. He should only be considered in deep AL-only leagues going into Week 21.
There's something else to keep in mind this week particularly for you Jordan Zimmerman owners. The Nationals have made it clear they want to shut Zimmerman down for the rest of season right around 160 innings. On the season he's thrown 151.2 innings with an impressive 3.11 ERA and 1.13 WHIP to go along with it. Depending on how deep he pitches into his next start, on Tuesday at home against Arizona, will determine whether or not he'll make his second start this week. He's been averaging about 6 innings an outing, so the Nationals will definitely have a decision to make. Granted, this is a judgment call, but I tend to think they'll give him two more starts before shutting him down. I'd go ahead and play him this week as you would normally. If you're in a keeper or dynasty league, definitely hang on to him. But for those of you in standard leagues, feel free to cut ties once the Nationals have officially pulled the plug on his season. Good luck! Now, on to what we all came here for, the Two-Start Pitchers! Of course, if you have any pitching questions, or now any fantasy football questions, don't hesitate to email me with them at scottmickels@fantasyplaymakers.com. NOTE: These starts are not set in stone. They can change for any variety of reasons: managerial moves, injuries, rain-outs, etc. Please keep in mind they are probable.
