Two Start Pitchers :: Week 16 by Scott Mickels Published: July 17, 2010, 8:46 am
Back to the fantasy grind...
I've got a few Injury Watch's to discuss this week. The first one takes us to the Twin Cities where Minnesota starter Scott Baker has been dealing with elbow tendonitis. An MRI on his elbow showed no structural damage. He was given a cortisone shot on Friday and 5 days rest. The Twins seem convinced his elbow will be fine and have him scheduled to make his next start Monday against the Indians. Baker hasn't pitched particularly well as he's been hit or miss all season, and despite his favorable match-ups this week, I personally wouldn't risk using him in standard leagues as tendonitis can tend to linger. Consider him a low-end Keep in Mind option in most leagues.
For our next Injury Watch we head to Cream City where Brewers pitcher Doug Davis finds himself right back on the DL with elbow tendonitis. Davis just got off the DL after a two-month stint with a heart condition, but was only able to make one start before being placed right back on it. It doesn't really matter though fantasy-wise. Davis wasn't pitching well at all this season when he was healthy, only recording one quality starts in 8 outings. With this news Davis obviously loses his two-start status and should be nowhere near your lineup this week.
And finally, we head to beautiful San Diego where Padres young star Mat Latos is dealing with kind of a freak injury. He apparently has a "strain on his left side" by trying to hold in a sneeze. Crazy, huh? It seems the Padres had plans to start limiting Latos' innings, but by placing him on the DL, they not only accomplish that but are able to bring up another arm to take his place. Latos is able to come off the DL on July 24, but isn't scheduled to make a start yet. With the Padres playing it cautious with him, I wouldn't count on him making on a Saturday or Sunday start. Leave him on your bench this week for a more reliable option.
Now, on to what we all came here for, the Two-Start Pitchers!

NOTE: These starts are not set in stone. They can change for any variety of reasons; managerial moves, injuries, rain-outs, etc. Please keep in mind they are probable.
