Two Start Pitchers :: Week 6 by Scott Mickels Published: April 30, 2008, 8:44 am
Not too much to report this week. My rant this week comes to us not from a 2-start pitcher this week, but from a two-timing pitcher. The big news this week came to us courtesy of Roger Clemens' decade-long affair with a wannabe country singer that started when she was 15 and he was 28. There are just so many jokes here; I'll let you come up with your own. While you're chewing on that, I have two emails to answer this week... Chris in Tucson, AZ writes: Scott, do you think there's a problem with Johnny Cueto or Brett Myers? The velocity of both of these guys has dropped to 85-88 mph after being 94-97 mph to start the season. Could it be an injury like what Borowski or Schmidt are experiencing? Or, is it just dead arm, like what James Shields had earlier this season? Thanks for the email, Chris! You bring up a very valid concern, but I wouldn't make any rash decisions just yet. It could be an injury, but it could just be these two are simply inconsistent. They've both been hit or miss, so that may be it. I haven't read anything implying an injury, but that doesn't mean there's not one. I wish I could give you something more solid, but I advise that you just stand pat. If you're really worried about an injury, you could always trade them for someone you feel more comfortable with, but be careful to not rip yourself off in the process. Rob in East Elmhurst, NY writes: I just traded Hideki Matsui for Joe Nathan in my H2H, points league. My other OF's are Carlos Lee, Curtis Granderson, Josh Willingham, Jermaine Dye, Melky Cabrera and Ryan Church. My only other closer is Trevor Hoffman. How did I do? Thank you for emailing, Rob! You could definitely afford to part with Matsui, so you did well there. Also, Nathan is a nice upgrade from Hoffman; props on that too. Although you do have some injuries with guys like Dye and Willingham, your outfield looks solid and deep enough that you shouldn't really miss a beat. I think you made out great in that deal, and hope it works for you for the rest of the season. Good luck! Just like Chris and Rob, if you have any kind of dilemmas like those staring you in the face each week, don't hesitate to email me with them at scottmickels@fantasyplaymakers.com. I'm more than happy to help you out and get your team's rotation pointed in the right direction. Now, without further ado, on to the two-start pitchers! NOTE: These starts are not set in stone. They can change for any variety of reasons; managerial moves, injuries, rain-outs, etc. Please keep in mind they are probable.
