Two Start Pitchers :: Week 17
by Scott Mickels
Published: August 5, 2012, 11:57 am

We've got a couple of Injury Watch's to get to this week.  For the first one we make our way to the Twin Cities where Minnesota starting pitcher Scott Diamond is recovering from a sore thigh.  Diamond took a line drive to his thigh in the 8th inning of his last start and was forced to leave after 7.1.  The Twins, Diamond and even Fox Sports North all say the injury is minor and have him slated to start Monday at division rival Cleveland.  Diamond is 9-5 with a 2.93 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.  Provided he has no setbacks with his thigh, he makes a low-end advisable option this week.

Next, we head to the Windy City where the Chicago Cubs' Matt Garza is still dealing with a triceps injury.  In case you're wondering why he didn't get traded at the deadline, this is why.  Garza had his bullpen session on Friday cut short and is now very unlikely to make his scheduled start Tuesday at San Diego.  I suppose the slim possibility is out there that he may still make his next start, but in the words of Cubs manager Dale Sveum, "That's pushing it".  It's discouraging news for those Garza owners hoping to use him, and his two starts, this week, but it appears he's still at least a week away.  Don't risk it.  Play it safe and keep Garza on your bench for Week 17.

Oh, and by the way... yes, that is "the" Kip Wells.

Good luck to your fantasy teams!  Now, on to what we all came here for, the Two-Start Pitchers!

Of course, if you have any pitching questions, don’t hesitate to email me with them at scottmickels@fantasyplaymakers.com.  Also, don’t forget to check out Mick’s Fantasy Podcast! It goes hand-in-hand with this article!

NOTE:  These starts are not set in stone. They can change for any variety  of  reasons: managerial moves, injuries, rain-outs, etc. Please keep  in mind  they are probable.
