Two Start Pitchers :: Week 22
by Scott Mickels
Published: August 27, 2010, 6:17 pm

As we slowly close in on the end of the regular season, I don't have any Injury Watch's to speak of, which is always a good thing. However, I did get one email this week that comes to me from Aaron S. So, let us quickly go to Mick's Mailbag…

Aaron S. writes: "Who would you rather have for the rest of the season? Phil Hughes or Wandy Rodriguez? Is it true Phil Hughes has an innings cap of 175? (he's at about 145 now) Wandy is on my waiver wire, but won't be for long."

Good question, but you almost answered it yourself. With Hughes apparently on an innings limit, Rodriguez is the easy choice. Don't get me wrong, Hughes has pitched great this year, but he is showing signs of fatigue. Down the stretch as you try to make that late season run, he's not someone to rely on as you would have just 3 months ago. Rodriguez, however, has been in a groove for the past two months. He has only given up more than 3 earned runs once since his start on June 18th. That one time came during his start on July 19th against the Cubs where he gave up 5 earned runs. Aside from that one start, every start since June 18th has been a quality start. As a result, he has a 7-2 record during that span to show for it. Besides, Rodriguez isn't on any kind of pitching count and the Astros aren't in any kind of pennant race, so consequently he's likely pitching with a lot less pressure than Hughes. As I said earlier, this is an easy choice. Go grab Rodriguez off your waiver wire immediately! Good luck, Aaron, and thanks for the email!

Now, on to what we all came here for, the Two-Start Pitchers!

Of course, if you have any pitching questions, or now any fantasy football questions, don't hesitate to email me with them at scottmickels@fantasyplaymakers.com.

NOTE: These starts are not set in stone. They can change for any variety of reasons; managerial moves, injuries, rain-outs, etc. Please keep in mind they are probable.
