Two Start Pitchers :: Week 26 by Scott Mickels Published: September 26, 2009, 6:56 pm
Well, gang, this is it... the last week of the regular season! This also marks the last Two-Start Pitchers article for 2009! Good luck to all of you who were smart and/or lucky enough to make your league's finals! Fortunately, for those playing for it all, I don't have one single Injury Watch to speak of. With that in mind, I'd like to take the opportunity to say I've really enjoyed writing these articles and I hope they've been helpful throughout the season. I also appreciate all of the emails I've received over the past year from my readers. Thanks for all of the support!
With no Injury Watch's to discuss, I'm going to wrap up 2009 with my picks for the Cy Young Award. In the American League, between Felix Hernandez, Zack Greinke and C. C. Sabathia, I have to give it to Zack Greinke. I just feel his overall body of work throughout the season is more impressive than anybody's in the AL, especially considering what he's had to work with in Kansas City. For him to win 15 games and have an ERA just a hair over 2 with the Royals team he's on is nothing short of remarkable.
In the National League, I've been a bit more wishy-washy. About a month ago, I would've said Tim Lincecum without a second thought. I absolutely love to watch the kid pitch. However, things have changed quite a bit since then. He's been hampered by injuries and in the meantime the Cardinals' dynamic duo of Adam Wainwright and Chris Carpenter have thrived. This was a very difficult choice, but in the end, despite Carpenter having only two less wins and a slightly better ERA, I had to go with Adam Wainwright simply based on the fact he's thrown over 30 more innings than Carpenter. I realize Lincecum, Carpenter and Wainwright all have good arguments for being the winner, but I just like Wainwright's season a tad more than what Carpenter was able to accomplish. So, there you have it, my Cy Young Award predictions!
Just a quick note, for those of you fantasy footballers out there, and I know we have a ton, be on the look out for my weekly Mick's Picks articles starting next week. Each week I'll recommend three players likely on your league's waiver wire that you should consider adding to your roster. The plan is to get those to you each Wednesday. Once again, thank you to all of my readers for your support this season! That's all folks!
Of course, if you have any pitching questions you'd like answered, don't hesitate to email me with them at scottmickels@fantasyplaymakers.com.
