Two Start Pitchers :: Week 24 by Scott Mickels Published: September 3, 2008, 8:09 pm
It's now Week 24 and we have less than a month of the regular season left. Hopefully, this will help you as you make those playoff pushes in your leagues. We have two Injury Watch's to keep an eye this week. First, in the American League, where Orioles starter Daniel Cabrera is suffering from soreness in his forearm, while at the same time enduring his 6-game suspension for throwing at Alex Rodriguez. He's a risky play for Week 24, so keep an eye on his start this Saturday against Oakland. If he can get through without feeling any lingering pain in his forearm, he makes a decent option in AL-only leagues, as he's very inconsistent. He's given up 6 or more earned runs in 4 of his last 7 starts, so he's not someone mixed leaguers can count on.
Our second Injury Watch comes to us from the Windy City, in the National League, where Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano has been experiencing a tired pitching arm. He was scheduled to have a MRI today, but for whatever reason, it never got done. So, not only did Zambrano miss his start, but he's likely to lose his two-start status as well. Zambrano is best left on everyone's bench until he proves his health. This could be good and bad for the Cubs. On one hand, it gives Zambrano some much needed rest, but on the other hand, he could become rusty and this could be something that could linger and affect him into the playoffs. That's something the Cubs are desperately trying to avoid with their ace. Unfortunately, as I said, there aren't any emails this week. You're a part of this column too! If you have any questions you'd like answered, don't hesitate to email me with them at scottmickels@fantasyplaymakers.com. I'm more than happy to help you out and get your team's rotation pointed in the right direction. Now, without further ado, on to the two-start pitchers!
NOTE: These starts are not set in stone. They can change for any variety of reasons; managerial moves, injuries, rain-outs, etc. Please keep in mind they are probable.
