Pick Six :: Week 22 by Jake Gott Published: February 6, 2008, 6:30 pm
Ding dong the Witch is dead. The Giants pulled off an upset in the Super Bowl to close out a fun, yet unspectacular 2007 season. Now we just get to sit back and wait for the draft and then training camps and fantasy drafts. Next week we look at how to construct a solid draft day Good Book.
A Rolling Moss Never Catches a Stone Or is it a rolling stone never catches Moss? Or a flying stone never makes it to Moss? Either way, Moss was a non-factor in the Super Bowl. And that has me thinking, with the amount of money Moss will make after his record setting season, can he be expected to stick with the Pats? They have been known to let receivers run off for bigger paydays only to regret ever leaving Brady and Belichick. If Moss is to leave, Wes Welker takes a huge leap forward in the rankings at WR and Moss and Brady go down a little each. I have a feeling though that Moss will stick around for another year or two and take a chance at another Super Bowl appearance, but only time will tell.
Rely on Eli Maybe it was the bigger stage and the hot hand down the stretch, but Giants' QB Eli Manning looked like a totally different man at the end of the season. He was mainly throwing from a set position and driving the ball to his receivers, though there were still a few times he was wobbling throws off his back foot. What should really matter however is if Manning can keep this up into next year, the values of WR's Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer and Steve Smith skyrocket. All could be solid statistically and worth keeping your eye on. One Big Gripe
Not that it would have changed the game or anything, but I found it relatively annoying that a referee can be within 10 feet of a penalty, be staring it directly in the eye and not call it. This is mainly aimed at the Amani Toomer missed offensive pass interference call in the first quarter. While Toomer made a great effort to keep his feet inbounds, he clearly interfered with the defender by not only pushing off, but also by using his hands to the face. It happens all the time, I know. But in a game as big as the Super Bowl, you would hope that the refs could at least get the ones in plain view right. It wasn't a huge deal, but just one of the points I thought I'd bring up. Looking at the Draft After looking at the draft the past few weeks, next week I'll put my mock draft up. It will only include the first round picks and will not take into effect any trades of picks/ players that may or may not occur. WAIT A MINUTE MR. POSTMAN The fans were wrong on the Pats pick, as was I. Horribly. But how many people can honestly say they thought that a) the game would be that low scoring and b) the Giants would win. I did receive a few emails about this, but nothing you wouldn't expect. To sum it up, Tony from Long Island was right, I'm an idiot.
Keep the emails and PM's coming so we can keep Monday Morning QB's from tossing some bad picks. To get your questions answered, PM TheSnake at FPM or email pick_six@hotmail.com. Keep checking your lineups and keep racking up points.
