Micks Picks :: Week 11 by Scott Mickels Published: November 21, 2009, 5:54 pm
Make sure to check here every week! Each week, I'll suggest three players that are likely on your league's waiver wire that could provide a spark to your fantasy team. Of course, if you have any questions you'd like me to answer, please send them to me at scottmickels@fantasyplaymakers.com. Also, one quick thing before I get to the Picks, there won't be a Mick's Picks next week for Week 12. I will be out of town visiting family and friends in Oklahoma City for Thanksgiving. I wish you all a very safe and happy Thanksgiving! Go Lions!
Now, for this week's Mick's Picks... Mick's Picks - Week 11
Chris Simms, QB, DEN (vs. SD) FPM Spin: Kyle Orton has missed practice all week, while Simms has taken all of the reps at quarterback with the starters. It seems very apparent that Simms will be the starter for Week 11 as the Broncos host the Chargers. This is a big game as the division lead in on the line. The Chargers are 11th in the league against the pass, so we could be seeing a heavy dose of Correll Buckhalter and Knowshon Moreno. Simms does have the weapons at his disposal, but it's just a matter of whether or not he can get them the ball. He's likely not going to light it up this week, but at least the slight potential for a decent fantasy game is there. If you're an Orton owner without a decent backup or are just flat out desperate at quarterback, Simms might be a decent #2 in deeper leagues. On a side note, yours truly will be at this game.
Season Stats - 13 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT

Bernard Scott, RB, CIN (@ OAK)
FPM Spin: Scott was set to start this week, but then it was reported Cedric Benson's injury isn't as bad as initially thought and on top of that, the Bengals signed the former Chief, Larry Johnson. Suddenly, Scott's fantasy week doesn't look so promising. Still, with that said, Scott will definitely be in the mix. It's really boils down to whether Benson will suit up or not, which we won't know for sure until Sunday morning. If he can go, this knocks Scott's value down a bit, but he could still make for a serviceable flex. If he can't, Scott's fantasy takes a big jump up and could possibly make him a decent #2 in deeper leagues, with such a favorable match-up against the Raiders. Scott makes a great insurance policy for any Benson owners or anyone thin at running back.
Season Stats - 29 carries, 95 yards, 0 TD

Jason Snelling, RB, ATL (@ NYG) FPM Spin: With Michael Turner out with an ankle injury, Snelling will get the start this week for the Falcons. Last week, when he stepped in for Turner, he rushed for 61 yards and a score on 18 carries. In fact, he's made the most of his opportunities this season when he does get the ball in his hands as evidenced by his 4.9 yards per carry. He's a definite must-own for Turner owners and anyone desperate at running back--on the off chance he's still available in your league, of course. He doesn't have the best match-up on paper, against the Giants' 13th-ranked rush defense, but it's still good enough to consider him a decent #2 in deeper leagues.
Season Stats - 37 carries, 183 yards, 1 TD
HONORABLE MENTIONSBrandon Gibson, WR, STL: Bursts onto the fantasy scene last week with 7 catches for 93 yards.
Lex Hilliard, RB, MIA: The new #2 running back in Miami with Ronnie Brown out for the season.
Lance Long, WR, KC: Should be one of the main beneficiaries of the 4-game suspension of Dwayne Bowe.
