Micks Picks :: Week 9 by Scott Mickels Published: November 7, 2009, 10:10 am
Make sure to check here every week! Each week, I'll suggest three players that are likely on your league's waiver wire that could provide a spark to your fantasy team. Of course, if you have any questions you'd like me to answer, please send them to me at scottmickels@fantasyplaymakers.com.
Now, for this week's Mick's Picks... Mick's Picks - Week 9
Justin Forsett, RB, SEA (vs. DET) FPM Spin: With Edgerrin James sent packing, Forsett becomes the new #2 running back in Seattle. He has great speed and good hands out of the backfield, and is now only an injury away from having his fantasy value skyrocket. Despite the great match-up this week against the Lions, he's not likely to make an impact immediately. However, the Seahawks do have favorable match-ups coming up against the Rams, Texans, Buccaneers and Titans, who all struggle against the run. Also, it remains to be seen how much longer Seattle will keep going with Julius Jones and his sub par outings. Jones hasn't gained more than 56 yards in the last 4 games. It's likely only a matter of time before the Seahawks decide to give Forsett an opportunity. If you're a Jones owner or have some room on your roster, now is the time to take a flier on Forsett. He has the chance to become a serviceable #2 in most leagues.
Season Stats - 19 carries, 109 yards, 0 TD
Malcolm Floyd, WR, SD (@ NYG)
FPM Spin: Floyd is the second guy on my list this week benefiting from a teammate's departure. The Chargers decided to part ways with Chris Chambers this past week, making Floyd the new #2 wide receiver in San Diego. The 6'5 Floyd is a much better compliment to Vincent Jackson than the 5'11 Chambers. Floyd has shown some promise when given the chance and this might just be the start of something good. Obviously, with weapons like Jackson, Antonio Gates and LaDanian Tomlinson for Philip Rivers to throw to, it may take a while before Floyd starts getting the consistent targets. Nonetheless, Floyd is obviously worth picking up if you owned Chambers, who now plays for Kansas City by the way, or if you're thin at receiver. Consider him a decent #3 receiver moving forward.
Season Stats - 11 receptions, 251 yards, 1 TD

Kelley Washington, WR, BAL (@ CIN) FPM Spin: Washington has quietly had a very consistent season. He's caught at least one pass in every game this season. He's listed as the team's #3 receiver, but is second on the team in receptions. It seems he's benefiting from Derrick Mason and Mark Clayton getting all of the defense's attention. He'll likely never blow up fantasy-wise this season, but is able to get his hands on the ball and makes a perfect flex play in deeper leagues. If you need some depth at receiver, Washington is definitely worth stashing as a good #4 in most leagues.
Season Stats - 24 receptions, 325 yards, 1 TD
HONORABLE MENTIONSJoel Dreessen, TE, HOU: With Owen Daniels out for the season, Dreessen becomes the Texans new starting tight end.
Spencer Havner, TE, GB: He likely won't keep this up, but his three touchdowns in the last two games are tough to ignore.
Vince Young, QB, TEN: Not really suggesting Young here, but he is the starter for the Titans again and if you're desperate for a quarterback, he qualifies.
