Mick's Picks :: Week 16 by Scott Mickels Published: December 18, 2008, 5:15 pm
Make sure to check here every week! Each week I'll help you make those critical waiver wire decisions that can make or break your team. Also, check out the FPM Weekly podcast , to not only hear any changes to my Mick's Picks, but you can hear podcast co-host Matt Ridley, list of his "Ridley's Releases" as well.
Mick's Picks - Week 16
Tavaris Jackson, QB, MIN (vs. ATL)
FPM Spin: Once again the picks this week are only mere suggestions. With every league out there either starting their playoffs or having their finals this week, none of these guys are people you'd risk your entire season's work and league championship on. And Jackson is no different. He surprised everyone last week with a 4-touchdown effort against a decent Cardinals secondary. He has a more favorable match-up this week, so he could have another solid game. Still, while throwing for four scores last week, he threw for less than 170 yards. If you have nothing on the line but pride this week, think about rolling the dice with Jackson. 200 yards and a score or two is a realistic expectation against a suspect Falcons pass defense.
Stats - 584 yards, 6 TD, 1 INT
Dennis Northcutt, WR, JAC (vs. IND)
FPM Spin: It was expected by many, myself included, that Reggie Williams would be the big beneficiary of Matt Jones being suspended. Instead Northcutt turned in his best game of the season as the Jags #2 receiver, catching 5 balls for 127 yards and a score. He could give us similar production this week provided the Jags can keep the Colts defense honest by causing havoc in the running game with Maurice Jones-Drew. If not, no worries. I mean, let's face it, if you're considering starting Northcutt, you're probably not in your league's playoffs anyway.
Stats - 31 receptions, 409 yards, 1 TD

P.J. Pope, RB, DEN (vs. BUF) FPM Spin: Despite his limited play, Pope has been effective when he's been given the ball. On paper the Broncos have three running backs suiting up this week, but as we all know “on paper” doesn't always tell the whole story. The facts are this: Tatum Bell is just not effective and Selvin Young isn't healthy and is being rushed back (no pun intended). This leaves Pope as the logical choice to get the bulk of the carries. On the season he's sporting an impressive 7.8 average per rush. He's got a great burst and decent hands out of the backfield. Like the two picks before him, as long as you've got nothing to lose, roll with Pope this week. He could surprise you.
Stats - 11 carries, 86 yards, 0 TD
HONORABLE MENTIONSJason Avant, WR, PHI: 5 catches for 101 yards in Week 15, is it his turn to be the Eagles "go-to" receiver?
Bryant Johnson, WR, SF: 11 receptions for 90 yards and a score the last two weeks combined.
Maurice Morris, RB, SEA: 29 carries for 125 yards (4.3 average per rush) in his last two games.
