Mick's Picks :: Week 12
by Scott Mickels
Published: November 20, 2008, 3:57 pm

Make sure to check here every week! Each week I'll help you make those critical waiver wire decisions that can make or break your team. Also, check out the FPM Weekly podcast , to not only hear any changes to my Mick's Picks, but you can hear podcast co-host Matt Ridley, list of his "Ridley's Releases" as well.

Mick's Picks - Week 12

Kerry Collins, QB, TEN (vs. NYJ)

FPM Spin: Collins has thrown for at least 230 yards and two touchdowns the last two straight games. Granted, both games were against sub par pass defenses (CHI & JAX), but let's face it, results are results. With defenses starting to key in on the Titans running game, especially in the red zone, Collins should see his touchdown passes increase. He also has a very favorable match-up this week against the Jets 28th ranked pass defense. In fact, Collins faces no pass defense currently ranked any higher than 17th for the next month (NYJ, DET, CLE, and HOU). He's not quite consistent enough to rely on on a weekly basis, but he does make a solid #2 in most leagues, especially with such favorable match-ups coming up and the Titans running game slowing down.

Stats - 1,755 yards, 8 TD, 4 INT

Fred Jackson, RB, BUF (@ KC)

FPM Spin: For a backup, Jackson had a huge game last week rushing for 60 yards on 12 carries. It was only the third time he's received double-digits carries all season. Now don't read this thinking Jackson is someone you should pick-up immediately and put in your lineup. Not even close. What he has established himself as though is a clear cut, valuable handcuff to Marshawn Lynch. On the season, he's carried the ball 72 times for 297 yards and a score with a respectable 4.1 average per carry. If you're a Lynch owner and want some insurance, or if you have some room on your roster to stash Jackson in an effort to beat your league's Lynch owner to the punch, pick him up soon. If Lynch misses any time for any reason, Jackson's fantasy value skyrockets.

Stats - 72 carries, 297 yards, 1 TD

Carnell Williams, RB, TB (@ DET)

FPM Spin: It seems like it's been ages since the Cadillac was up and running, but it appears this could be the week the former Offensive Rookie of the Year sees the field. The word out of Tampa is that Williams still has a 50/50 shot to play this week. Provided he suits up, he should step in as the Bucs #2 running back with Earnest Graham being placed in the IR. Going into Week 12, Warrick Dunn will be the starting running back, but Dunn is not only getting long in the tooth but is prone to injuries as well, which could open the door for Williams. Granted, this is all speculation and I'm giving Williams the best case scenario, but it's a realistic one nonetheless. Dunn is not someone the Bucs can ride the remainder of the season, and with only two other rookies to back him up, Williams would be the logical choice (provided he's healthy of course) to step in if Dunn goes down. He's not someone most of you in fantasy will want to go grab, but if you're one of those owners that has a vested interested in the Bucs running back situation (Graham and/or Dunn owners), Williams could be worth stashing.

Stats - No Stats

HONORABLE MENTIONS

J.J. Arrington, RB, ARI - could develop into the feature back in Arizona.

Justin Gage, WR, TEN - 8 catches for 194 and three touchdown the last two straight games.

Derrick Ward/Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, NYG - both could split carries with Brandon Jacobs questionable for Week 12.
