Mick's Picks :: Week 6
by Scott Mickels
Published: October 9, 2008, 6:14 pm

Make sure to check here every week! Each week I'll help you make those critical waiver wire decisions that can make or break your team. Also, check out the FPM Weekly podcast , to not only hear any changes to my Mick's Picks, but you can hear podcast co-host Matt Ridley, list of his "Ridley's Releases" as well.

Mick's Picks - Week 6

Cedric Benson, RB, CIN (@NYJ)

FPM Spin: I won't lie. I'm no fan of Benson; never have been dating back to his days at Texas. Be that as it may, he does find himself in a situation in Cincinnati where he could start seeing regular carries very soon. Chris Perry has been far from impressive and received only 13 carries last week to Benson's 10. Head coach Marv Lewis has also spoke out publicly concerning his displeasure with Perry's fumbling problems. On top of that, he made it clear Benson would play a bigger role in the offense this week, so it does indicate the team isn't fully committed to Perry. Keeping that in mind, Perry hasn't lost his starting job just yet, although it seems inevitable the dreaded “by-committee” is on the horizon. Benson isn't worth starting in any leagues, but he is worth stashing for you Chris Perry owners and those of you in deeper leagues in case he does in fact supplant Perry as the starter.

Stats - 10 carries, 30 yds, 0 TD

Zach Miller, TE, OAK (@NO)

FPM Spin: With Lane Kiffin gone in Oakland, the Raiders will have a new play caller in Greg Knapp. As a result, the Raiders should air it out a bit more this week. The Raiders also face the 27th ranked pass defense in the Saints. Both of those things bode well for Miller's chances of putting up good fantasy numbers. JaMarcus Russell hasn't quite grasped the pro game yet, so Miller makes a perfect dump-off option. This was evidenced as he broke out last week with 5 catches for 95 yards and a score. With the Saints poor defense and potent offense, this game could turn into a shoot-out. While expecting similar numbers this week is realistic, it's hard to put too much faith into any player from an organization as unstable as the Raiders. Miller is probably best left for those for you in deeper leagues or used as a backup if you're not confident with your current tight end situation.

Stats - 11 receptions, 153 yards, 1 TD

Brandon Stokley, WR, DEN (vs JAX)

FPM Spin: Stokley is a huge sleeper for Week 6. With Eddie Royal injured and possibly out, he could be the #2 receiver, along side Brandon Marshall, when the Broncos host the Jags. Although Royal is expected to play, it's in a limited capacity at best, so he shouldn't cut into Stokley's numbers too much, if at all. Over the years, and this year is no exception, Stokley has proven to be a consistent target and has started to develop a good rapport with Jay Cutler the last two weeks. He has a legit #1 in Marshall ahead of him to draw most of the defense's attention, so he should see single coverage all day. He also faces a Jacksonville defense that has given up over 300 yards passing the last two weeks. All of those things add up to a likely good day fantasy-wise for Stokley. With the potency of the Broncos' offense, he makes a good #2 and a great flex option heading into Week 6.

Stats - 21 receptions, 233 yards, 1 TD

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Steve Breaston, WR, ARI

Vinsanthe Shiancoe, TE, MIN
