Mick's Picks :: Week 5 by Scott Mickels Published: October 1, 2008, 10:29 pm
Make sure to check here every week! Each week I'll help you make those critical waiver wire decisions that can make or break your team. Also, check out the FPM Weekly podcast , to not only hear any changes to my Mick's Picks, but you can hear podcast co-host Matt Ridley, list of his "Ridley's Releases" as well.
Mick's Picks - Week 5
Le'Ron McClain, RB, BAL (vs TEN)
FPM Spin: Once again, like every game so far this season, McClain found himself as the Ravens' leading rusher in Week 4. He finished the game with 16 carries for 63 yards and a touchdown. It was also the second straight week he found pay dirt. In addition, he is currently averaging 17 carries a game. Considering Willis McGahee can't seem to stay healthy, McClain should continue to see the bulk of the carries in Baltimore. Not to mention, the Ravens face some rather weak defenses coming up when they take on the Dolphins, Raiders, Browns and Texans consecutively, so those should make for some promising starts. McClain won't outrun anyone, but he runs hard through holes and has proven he has a nose for the end zone. He could very easily turn into the #1 running back for the Ravens, so if you own McGahee or are weak at running back, stop reading this and grab him immediately!
Stats - 52 carries, 215 yards, 3 TD Lance Moore, WR, NO (vs. MIN) FPM Spin: It is only two games, but Moore looks to be the most consistent receiver the Saints have. In the past two weeks, he's established himself as Drew Brees' favorite target. He caught another 7 balls for 101 yards and two scores in Week 4. Moore is a possession receiver who should see plenty of balls come his way while Colston is out. The Saints face the Vikings this week, a team much better at dealing with the run than the pass, so Moore should make a good #2 for Week 5 in all leagues. Snag him off the wire immediately if he's still available. Stats - 17 receptions, 203 yards, 2 TD
 Kyle Orton, QB, CHI (@DET) FPM Spin: I'm going out on a limb here, but Orton has actually played fairly well lately. He's thrown 5 touchdowns in the last two games to 5 different receivers. He's obviously not going to throw for a ton of yards each week, but as long as he's throwing touchdowns, he's worth owning as a low-end #3 or bye-week filler. He has a great match-up this week against the Lions horrible defense. Chances are the Bears will be playing ahead early, so they will be relying heavily on the run, but Orton still has a good chance of throwing for a score or two. He's not in as much demand as the previous two picks, so you can be patient, but if you're thin at quarterback in a deep league, it might be wise to stash him in case he can keep this up. Stats - 766 yards, 5 TD, 4 INT HONORABLE MENTIONSMewelde Moore, RB, PIT Kevin Walter, WR, HOU Domenik Hixon, WR, NYG
