Make sure to check here every week! Find out who the hot players are to pick up and the slumping players you should bench. Each week I'll help you make those critical waiver wire decisions that can make or break your team. Mick's Picks - Week 17 Pick Up
Najeh Davenport, RB, PIT (@BAL)
FPM Spin: Desperation is the theme this week. Don’t rely on any of these players if you’re in your league’s playoffs. With Willie Parker out for the season with a broken leg, Davenport steps in as the Steelers starting running back. He was productive gaining 123 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. He also chipped in 2 catches for 44 receiving yards and a score. If the game this week starts to get out of hand either way, Davenport could be benched early--as Pittsburgh doesn’t have many healthy options at running back heading to the playoffs. Davenport is a decent pick up if you’re desperate at running back. Stats - 95 carries, 472 yards, 4 TD TJ Duckett, RB, DET (vs. PHI) FPM Spin: With Kevin Jones done for the season, Duckett stands to get the bulk of the carries for Detroit in Week 17. He was impressive last week after coming in for Jones, rushing for 102 yards and a score on 15 carries. Granted, 53 of those yards came on one carry, but production is production. Tatum Bell and Aveion Cason may steal a few carries as they’ll be used to give Duckett a breather, but all-in-all Duckett should have a decent day against a Packers defense that has nothing to play for. He makes a decent #3 running back or flex option this week. Stats - 52 carries, 306 yards, 3 TD Shaun Hill, QB, SF (vs. CLE) FPM Spin: Now this one is as desperate as it gets. Hill has yet to eclipse 200 yards passing in a game, but he continues to find the end zone. He was especially impressive last week throwing three touchdowns on only 123 yards passing. He does face a Browns defense this week that has a lot to play for, so they will be up for the game. However, their defense is weak enough that Hill could capitalize. If you’re in a bind at quarterback, consider playing Hill as a decent #2 quarterback. Stats - 501 yards, 5 TD, 1 INT
Bench At this point in the season, I feel no need to tell you who to drop. Most leagues have already had their finals, and for the few of you, whose leagues go through Week 17, me included, you should already have a good idea of who your starters will be. The one pointer I did want to give to those of you playing this week, keep in mind the teams playing for nothing. Some of those teams include the Colts, Jaguars, Steelers, Packers, Cowboys and Giants. Also, keep in mind, as big as the Patriots game will be to find out if they can go undefeated, chances are they will be sitting they’re regular starters when or if they get a comfortable lead. I’m not about to recommend sitting Tom Brady or anything crazy like that, but it is something to keep in the back of your mind.
