Mick's Picks :: Week 13
by Scott Mickels
Published: November 28, 2007, 12:20 am

Make sure to check here every week! Find out who the hot players are to pick up and the slumping players you should bench. Each week I'll help you make those critical waiver wire decisions that can make or break your team.

Mick's Picks - Week 13

Pick Up

AJ Feeley, QB, PHI (vs. SEA)

FPM Spin: Feeley showed signs of brilliance in the Eagles' loss to the Patriots as he stepped in for the injured Donovan McNabb. It remains to be seen who will be the Eagles' starting quarterback for Week 13, but with McNabb's status for Sunday up in the air, there's a chance Feeley will be under center against the Seahawks. It's not the most favorable match-up, but will do if you're in a bind at quarterback. Feeley makes a good pick-up in deeper leagues, leagues that start two quarterbacks and as a handcuff for you McNabb owners.

Stats - 461 yards, 4 TD, 4 INT

Adrian Peterson, RB, CHI (vs. NYG)

FPM Spin: With Cedric Benson out for the season with a leg injury, Peterson will make just his second career start this week against the Giants. He doesn't have the burst of speed Benson has, but he does run tough through the holes, is hard to bring down and blocks better than Benson. Peterson isn't going to blow anyone away with his stats, but he should produce similar numbers to that of Benson. He makes a great pick-up in any league for those in need of running back depth, and especially you Cedric Benson owners out there.

Stats - 52 carries, 189 yards, 2 TD

Kolby Smith, RB, KC (vs. SD)

FPM Spin: It appears Larry Johnson is still at least a week away, meaning Smith will once again get the start at running back for the Chiefs. Smith impressed last week gaining 150 yards and two scores on 31 carries. Granted, it was against the league's worst rush defense, but it was impressive nonetheless. This week's match-up against the Chargers will be a bit tougher, but with Smith having a great chance of carrying the ball 20-30 times, he still makes a decent #2 in any league. Keep in mind, Larry Johnson is expected to return soon, so Smith's days in the starting lineup (and as a fantasy producer) are numbered.

Stats - 41 carries, 169 yards, 2 TD

Bench

Cedric Benson, RB, CHI (vs. NYG)

FPM Spin: Not much to say here. Benson's disappointing and frustrating season ends prematurely as he's out for the season with a leg injury. Benson should be dropped in all but the deepest of keeper leagues at this point.

Stats - 196 carries, 674 yards, 4 TD

Eli Manning, QB, NYG (@ CHI)

FPM Spin: In his last three games, Eli has thrown three touchdowns to six interceptions, indicating something is clearly not right in Gotham. He's consistently getting flustered in the pocket, and with a little pressure has shown he's prone to make mistakes. This was obvious in last week's loss to the Vikings, in which he apparently couldn't tell the white jerseys from the blue ones. So, what do you think the Bears will be doing? Can you say “blitz”? They'll be in his face all afternoon. This one does not bode well for Manning; against a defense that is starting to come into its own. If you can afford to, keep Manning on your bench this week.

Stats - 2,376 yards, 16 TD, 15 INT

Steve Smith, WR, CAR (vs. SF)

FPM Spin: Who knew Jake Delhomme meant so much to Smith's fantasy value? Without Delhomme, Smith is a mediocre receiver at best. He hasn't gained over 100 yards in a game or found the end zone since Week 6. He does have a favorable match-up this week against the 49ers, but don't hold your breath for any breakout game here. With iffy quarterback play in Carolina, Smith's fantasy value will continue to dip. Keep Smith on your bench this week for a better option.

Stats - 51 receptions, 637 yards, 6 TD
