Studs and Duds :: 5/14-5/20 by Scott Mickels Published: May 21, 2007, 12:47 pm
May 14th - May 20th Studs of the Week
Randy Johnson (SP, Arizona Diamondbacks) The Big Unit’s rejuvenation continues. His arm has been electric since returning from back surgery. He finally got some run support last week and recorded two wins to show for it. As long as he’s throwing like he has, keep him in your lineup. However, keep an eye out for any injury updates. His back, among other ailments, could flare up at any time. He’s a must-start in any league while he remains healthy. Week 7 Stats - 11.2 IP, 19 K, 0 BB, 2 ER, 2 W
David Wright (3B, New York Mets) Wright had a great fantasy week in Week 7 hitting .409 for the week. After cooling off a bit, he seems to be getting back on track and looks more comfortable at the plate. He remains a must-start in all leagues. Week 7 Stats - 9-22, 4 HR, 10 RBI, 7 R, 3 BB, 2 SB
Studs Honorable Mention: Aramis Ramirez, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Grady Sizemore, A. J. Burnett, Hunter Pence, Justin Verlander, Kevin Youkilis, Matt Morris, Hanley Ramirez and Fausto Carmona.
Duds of the Week
John Maine (SP, New York Mets) Maine didn’t pitch particularly bad last week, but was saddled with two losses. There’s a disturbing trend in his stats lately, as his walks are going up and his strikeouts are going down. It’s probably nothing, but it’s definitely worthy of some attention. Despite his recent struggles, Maine is still a must-start in all leagues. Week 7 Stats - 10 IP, 8 K, 6 BB, 8 ER, 2 L

Andruw Jones (OF, Atlanta Braves) Jones was actually dropped from the cleanup spot to sixth in the Braves lineup over the weekend. He was later scratched from the Braves lineup altogether with a sore back. It’s unsure if it was actually a sore back or just Jones being upset over his demotion in the lineup. At any rate, this new back issue is something to keep an eye on. Jones remains a must-start in all leagues. Week 7 Stats - 3-25, 3 RBI Duds Dishonorable Mention: Adam Wainwright, Adam Dunn, Barry Zito, Richie Sexson, Chris Capuano, Melvin Mora, Micah Owings and B. J. Upton.
